Richard E. Ottum

Richard E. Ottum, 82, of Durand, formerly of Gilmanton, passed away Monday, October 12, 2009 at Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand, WI.

He was born on December 4, 1926 in the Town of Belvidere, Buffalo County, WI to Edwin and Grace (Adams) Ottum. From 1945 until 1955 Richard was in the U.S. Army. After that he worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad and Amtrac as a cook. When he retired from the railroad, he returned to Wisconsin where he enjoyed reading, visiting with family and friends and had a love for cats.

He is survived by his seven brothers, Allis (Rose) Ottum of Independence, Arthur (Phyllis) Ottum of El Paso, TX, Donald (Olive) Ottum of Mondovi, Royal (Gloria) Ottum of Mondovi, Ross Ottum of Arcadia, Landon (Bonnie) Ottum of Alma and Clifford (Sandra) Ottum of Orlando, FL; six sisters, Darlene Davis of Gilmanton, WI, Mavis Anderson of Gilmanton, Treva (Robert) Loewenhagen of Mondovi, Jensine (Elmer) Myers of Gilmanton, Vicky Fuller of Altoona and Linda Robinson of Osseo; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Darrell, James and Kerry Ottum.

Friends may call Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home in Mondovi.

Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Service

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Engen officiating. Burial will be at the Gilmanton Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by Gilmanton Legion Post # 264.
